Managing the Total Cost of Production and Finding New Methods to Lower Costs are Cited as Most Significant e-Discovery Challenges Facing Business RenewData Sponsors Best Practices Workshops to Identify Key Issues Facing Law Firms and Corporations Struggling to Manage Electronic Discovery Requests Austin, TX, March 14, 2005 - RenewData, a leading technology provider of electronic evidence services and preservation archiving for corporations and law firms, has uncovered preliminary findings through a series of E-Discovery Best Practice Workshops designed to identify the most common and critical legal, technical and logistical electronic discovery challenges facing business today. According to workshop attendees, including attorneys, senior litigation support managers and e-discovery practice managers from some of the top legal firms and corporations in the country, the biggest obstacles they face when challenged with electronic discovery requests include managing the total cost of production and finding new methods to lower those costs. RenewData sponsored the seminars to develop critical solutions and best practices for law firms and businesses to implement in response to the exponential growth of new discovery requests. Although RenewData will sponsor a minimum of eight E-Discovery Best Practice Workshops in 2005, workshop groups have already generated some compelling outcomes, including methods for managing the review of large volumes of data and data collection and preservation techniques to limit legal exposure. Workshop attendees receive a confidential detailed report summarizing key findings from the workshops. "My primary goal in attending the workshops was to interact with fellow legal professionals to learn about effectively addressing the complexity, time demands and costs associated with electronic discovery requests," said Chad Papenfuss, ediscovery Support Administrator of Fredrikson & Byron, P.A. "The workshop yielded some new ideas I plan to implement in my own organization for more effectively managing electronic discovery requests. The workshops exceeded my expectations and I really appreciated that it wasn't just a sales pitch." "The purpose of these workshops is to foster networking and knowledge sharing among legal professionals and the business community," said Alan Brooks, senior vice president of marketing. "We've held four well-attended workshops this past fall and we have received considerable feedback on key issues. Workshop attendees validated RenewData's strategy to move organizations to proactively process their backup tapes into a data warehouse for searching and culling as one viable solution. This approach will enable organizations to control litigation costs and plan their strategies based upon real knowledge of their legal situation." George Socha, an electronic discovery special master, expert witness and advisor to law firms and their clients, corporations and other organizations, moderated the workshops. "The best practices associated with electronic discovery are rapidly changing as the market evolves," said Socha. "RenewData acknowledges the legal, logistical and technical challenges associated with electronic discovery and has responded by providing an important forum for attorneys, ediscovery support managers and e-discovery specialists to collaborate on practices that have the power to change how e-discovery requests are managed in the future."
