Results of the survey were based on data which was gathered from 91 respondents, representing consumers and providers of electronic discovery products and services through interviews, rigorous research findings and a self-paced survey.

Providers were ranked based on a set of seven criteria which included; experience and reputation, capacity, types of services, software usage, law firm rankings, corporate rankings, and revenue estimates. The final results were based on a weighted combination of the five criteria results rather than a single criterion. The "Top 5" providers are listed in alphabetical order in the report, without indication of individual ranking within the group.
